We watched Kevin Macpherson plein air paint in Walt Gonskey's garden. Walt's garden was to die for, surrounding his home and studio. It was such a priveledge to be there let alone, paint and watch Kevin.

Kevin took a smaller plein air study and showed us how he enlarges the study in the studio. To put a twist on things, he used the Zorn palette to recreate the color relationships and illustrate the lesson. The results were amazing.

Morning One of the Macpherson workshop, Kevin put us right to work! He said it would help everyone get over their nerves. Yikes! I was pretty happy with my study after about 45 minuts and went up to the house for a break before starting a second painting. I came back outside, not ten minutes later and it was POURING rain! All of the other artists had bugged out and I was under my huge poncho trying to pack my gear - without getting soaked. Of course I got soaked , but I had a true plein-air experience in Taos, NM, where the weather changes every ten minutes!

Macpherson's new book Reflections on a Pond, is "a visual journal of the ever changing daily and seasonal differences couple with the moods and the insights of the artist" for a collection of paintings of the pond. A beautiful and inspiring book as well as an enriching place to paint.
